FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

Pilot valves control a limited-flow control feed to a piloted valve which typically controls a high pressure or high flow feed. Often used in critical applications such as safety controls, pilot valves need protection against dirt, moist, tools and other outside influences that could have a negative impact on availability and reliability.

Our Hazardous Pilot valves have pilot bodies and covers made from pressure die cast aluminium which is anodized, or from stainless steel. They are designed to operate with compressed air manifold pressures ranging from 0.5 bar to 7.5 bar and, unless stated otherwise, may be installed in any orientation.

APPLICATIONS

Pentair’s Goyen and Mecair two-way (normally closed) hazardous pilot explosion-proof models PXA and PEX were specifically designed to be installed on type VEM diaphragm valves, and for those applications where a spark may cause ignitions in the surrounding atmosphere.

The PEX and PXA series have been designed and approved according to the ATEX Directive 94/9/CE and classified as II 2G Ex d IIC T4 / II 2D Ex tD A21 IP67, meaning that they are operable at temperatures up to 135°C and water resistant. This ensures that any spark occurring at the solenoid will remain within the pilot valve enclosure, with no possibility of spreading to the external environment.

Pentair’s Goyen and Mecair hazardous pilots are specifically designed for the reverse pulse jet filter cleaning of dust collectors and baghouses in locations with a high risk of dust and gas explosions.

These include all variations of bag filters, cartridge filters, envelope filters, ceramic filters and sintered metal fiber filters. Their tough and reliable construction makes them perfectly suited for both noxious and environmental dust collection applications in a wide range of industries, including:
• Cement dust collection
• Mining dust collection
• Silo/bulk materials handling dust collection
• Industrial dust collection
• Power industry: protection of boilers and gas turbine intake filter systems
